Hello Dog Days...

"Already it was deep summer on roadhouse roofs and in front of wayside garages ... when I reached my estate at West Egg I ran the car under its shed and sat for a while on an abandoned grass roller in the yard. The wind had blown off, leaving a loud, bright night, with wings beating in the trees and a persistent organ sound as the full belows of the earth blew the frogs full of life."

- The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald (Scribner's, 1925)

August is upon us, which means a few things to the West Egg community: the end of the Summer Writing Workshop at St. Olaf (rumor has it that the week was stellar, as usual), the approach of fall semester, and the arrival of the annual Gatsby Lawn Party.

We will gather on the green behind the GLS house and welcome new students on Wednesday, August 25 at 6:30 pm. Bring your croquet mallet and your sharpest haiku mind. You won't want to miss this West Egg tradition.
